ZENI GEVA (Tokyo, Japan) Tour Australia Sep / Oct

July 26th, 2010

As quoted on their Myspace (www.myspace.com/zenigeva) Zeni Geva is a Japanese prog-hardcore band, led by singer and guitarist KK Null, one pioneering group of innovators and legends.

Hailing from Tokyo, Zeni Geva was founded in 1987 and quickly found success in the US and Europe, this enabled Zeni Geva the rare chance to tour abroad along side such notable bands as Neurosis, Shallac, Eyehategod, Melvins and Don Caballero. Along with The Boredoms, Zeni Geva was one of the first Japanese bands to extensively tour outside of Japan and be embraced by a largely western audience.

Cited as one of Steve Albini’s favorite bands, Albini openly appreciates the bands wide range of influences and the fact that they’ve stayed true to their Japanese roots as apposed to trying to westernize their sound. After 12 albums, 5 of which being produced by Steve Albini, it’s safe to say he’s a fan.

The current line up of Zeni Geva reintroduces Tatsuya Yoshida to the fold after a 20 year absence, he played with Zeni Geva between the years of 1989 -1990 and was featured on their debut album ‘Maximum Money Monster’. Yoshida also plays in Ruins and Acid Mothers Temple.

For the first time in 14 years, Heathen Skulls are proud to present the legendary Japanese hardcore noise punks ZENI GEVA in Australia.

OM ‘God is Good’ Australian Tour – July 2010 with special guest Lichens (NYC)

June 4th, 2010

OM Press photo

Rising from the ashes of legendary Californian stoner metal legends SLEEP, Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius reemerged with what has become one of the most original and innovative bands of the modern psych, drone and doom metal genres, so much so they’ve spawned a sea of imitators that only echo the intensity and purity that OM have become accredited for.

OM was founded in 2003 after Cisneros’ returned to public music after a 7-year meditative hiatus. The duo went on to track their monumental debut album “Variations on a Theme” in 2004 for Holy Mountain Records. “Variations” shook the foundations of the American underground, which in turn resonated and melted minds internationally. It single handedly merged genres and broke down barriers between the indie kids, metal scene and everything in between.

After three studio albums, two split releases (with Current 93 and Six Organs of Admittance), and a live LP recorded in Jerusalem, drummer Chris Hakius departed OM in early 2008 and was replaced by Emil Amos of Grails and Holy Sons. Cisneros and Amos have since released a 7” for Sub Pop’s Single’s Club, a live vinyl-only LP “Conference Live” on Important Records, and their most recent studio album “God is Good” on their new label Drag City. The band is currently working on its 5th studio album to be released in 2011 on Drag City.

Heathen Skulls are proud to present for the first time in Australia, OM.

Limited edition Monarch LP, Sabbat Noir, out now!

March 27th, 2010

After the endless bullshit of dealing with the Vinyl pressing plant “Zenith” in which they delayed the release of Sabbat Noir by six weeks causing it not to be available for the Australian tour it was intended for, i’m happy to say SABBAT NOIR is now finally released and among us!

I have to say, many thanks go out to not only Monarch, who did a great job designing the artwork, but also to Xavier Irvine and the folks at Madman Printing for doing the layout and making the packaging look totally amazing, this is now Heathen Skulls best release to date, we’re really proud of this one.

Ok, lets talk Sabbat Noir!
Packaged in nice thick cardboard with silver layered, hi gloss artwork, Sabbat Noir is on 180 gram wax and is super limited to 400 LP’s. It’s not cheap, but that’s Australia for you, it cost a shit load to press and print in the land down under so the retail price is $25 + $20 shipping international, $10 postage in Australia.
There’s the possibility it maybe re-pressed and re-released Internationally, but I wouldn’t be hopeful, if you want a copy of this record the way it was intended, limited deluxe edition on Heathen Skulls, you’d better get in quick.
We’ve have a lot of pre-orders and it’s selling super fast.

For all customers that have pre-ordered copies, your LP’s have now been shipped out!
Sorry about the delay.
For orders, please email: mailorderstuff@gmail.com

Jandek Australian Tour: March 18th – 28th 2010

March 7th, 2010

Jandek Australian Tour

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Jandek is the musical project of an outsider musician whose name and identity has been a mystery for over 30 years. Since 1978, Jandek has self-released over 60 albums of dissonant and often emotionally dissolute folk / blues through his label Corwood Industries.

Jandek often plays a highly idiosyncratic and frequently atonal form of folk and blues that border very closely on the avant-garde. Refusing to use any form of traditionalism with structure, chords and tuning, Jandek has created a stylized form of music that is entirely his own. Lyrically he mirrors the country blues and folk traditions of East Texas, but sonically, he’s in a league of his own.

In 2004, a documentary was released entitled ‘Jandek on Corwood’. It documented Jandek’s recorded history and the people that have had contact with him, which is not many, as he had never played live and only granted one interview, and that was back in 1985. Up until 2004 no one was certain of his identity.

The mystery of Jandek’s identity was unveiled in October 2004 when he appeared for the first time live at the 04 Music Festival in Glasgow, Scotland. He has since made a number of live appearances at festivals like All Tomorrow’s Parties, Pitchfork and SXSW.

Up until 2009, Jandek’s backing band consisted of musicians from bands such as Tortoise, Grails, Quasi and Grouper – his backing band changed for each performance, depending on who was available at the time. In 2009 he settled on a permanent rhythm section from Glasgow, Scotland, which consists of Volcanic Tongue Records owner and WIRE contributor David Keenan on drums and Heather Leigh on bass. Heather Leigh plays alongside drummer Chris Corsano as part of Jailbreak and Christina Carter as a member of Scorces as well as having an extensive solo back catalogue with releases across labels like Not Not Fun, Wholly Other and Fag Tapes.

MONARCH Melbourne headline show / LP Launch!

February 4th, 2010

As a pre-tour warm up event, MONARCH are doing a special headline show on Wednesday 17th of February at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne to launch their new LP “Sabat Noir“!

Supports on the night are Hotel Wrecking City Traders, Agonhymn & Encircling Sea.

Entry: $15 / Doors: 8pm

Recorded in late December in Bayonne, France, and featuring Robert MacManus (ex-Grey Daturas) on drums, Sabat Noir is one 30 minute long track thats been split into two parts and spread across both sides of the Sabat Noir LP.

This is some of the darkest funeral doom that Monarch’s ever committed to wax, it’s way heavier, more textural, melodic and sonically dense.

Released on Heathen Skulls, Sabat Noir has been pressed onto 170 gram wax, is limited to 400 hand numbered LP’s and will have slightly different artwork to that of the European pressing, due out in early April for their European Tour.

For order, please email: mailorderstuff@gmail.com
